At the heart of Precious Okoyomon’s multidisciplinary practice combining contemporary art, theory, and poetry is the imagining and dreaming of new worlds—worlds in which humans are inextricably linked to nonhuman beings and things. On the occasion of the exhibition Precious Okoyomon – One Either Loves Oneself or Knows Oneself, Kunsthaus Bregenz is issuing the first institutional publication on Okoyomon’s work. In its unique form, this artist’s book offers a wide range of loosely assembled material that stimulates our minds, senses, and imagination.
Please arrange the pages to meet your desire and design your own publication! The images and texts can be compiled individually in a specially designed ring binder. The binder contains an extensive set of exhibition views of the fascinating works the artist newly created for the four floors of Kunsthaus Bregenz, as well as prints of drawings by Precious Okoyomon, childhood photos of the artist, and a large-format poster. It also includes a collection of insightful texts: in the exhibition, intimate questionnaires allow visitors to confront their own vulnerability. Okoyomon’s personal answers appear in the publication, alongside three in-depth conversations the artist conducted with the Black Studies icon Christina Sharpe and the poet Bhanu Kapil, the artist Bracha Lichtenberg Ettinger and the psychoanalyst Jamieson Webster, and the curators Claude Adjil and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
